This October, Misael Barraza-Diaz released his second flamenco CD, “Camino Forjado,” with all instruments and vocals by Barraza-Diaz. Born in Mexico, Barraza-Diaz is among the most talented guitarists of his generation. He is a recent doctoral graduate of the Bolton Guitar Studies program at the University of Arizona, where he also received a Bachelor and Master degrees in Music; he holds has an additional Master degree with top honors in guitar from the University of Alicante, Spain.
Misael received 10 international first prizes in North American and European guitar competitions. He won 23 first prizes at the Bolton Guitar Studies internal competitions, including three three David Russell Bach Prize awards and five Steve Schulman Awards. In addition, he received multiple academic awards from the U of A, such as the Music Advisory Board Graduate Distinguished Award (2020), the Creative Achievement Award (2018), and the Northern Trust Distinguished Graduate Student Award (2015).Misael is among the top Flamenco guitarists in the country, and he performs regularly with prominent flamenco companies in the area. His second solo Flamenco Guitar CD “El Camino Forjado” is now available.
