November 8, 2025, join us for La Pinta Flamenca, featuring Julia Chacón Flamenco Theatre, and sponsored by Phoenix World Arts Collective. The show features an intimate version of “Braided Roots,” a production celebrating the diverse roots that contributed to flamenco’s formation, and the unique diversity of artists practicing globally today. Flamenco’s origin in the small region of Andalusia, Spain has not limited its global reach. Within flamenco music itself are traces of Arabic, Moorish, Roma, Afro-Iberian, Judaic, Spanish, and Catholic cultures. Throughout past generations flamenco artists have incorporated instrumentation and musical sensibilities from various cultures such as Cuban, Argentine, African, European, Peruvian, and US American. Avant-garde flamenco draws from postmodern contemporary dance, and theatrical flamenco draws on European concert dance traditions; together these threads of gobal modernity weave new patterns into flamenco; an ever changing and evolving art form on the global stage.
