Julia Chacon Flamenco Theatre instructors are professional artists with meaningful artistic practices and careers as art makers and performers. Their drive to inspire a love of movement is integral to our mission in the arts.

Julia Chacón, Director, holds an MFA in Dance, MA in Creative Enterprise and Cultural Leadership, BA in Anthropology, BFA in dance, and is completing a doctorate in Performance Studies. She has taught flamenco for 25 years, and has seven years experience in early education dance. Her foundational training includes extensive ballet, modern, Classical Spanish and flamenco. August Kinard received a degree in Dance Pedagogy from Oklahoma City University in 2022 and has taught early education dance for twelve years. She has taught for Tutu School and currently teaches pre-K ballet for the Ballet Theatre of Phoenix and Julia Chacón Flamenco Theatre. In addition to dance, August is a graphic designer for Third Space Dance Project.

Sarah Castellanos is a flamenco performer, teacher and choreographer based Phoenix, Arizona. She has been dancing flamenco for more than a decade, studying in Washington DC and abroad. She began performing and teaching at the age of seventeen and continues to grow and stretch herself as a dancer. Always seeking new projects and opportunities to learn, share, and dance, Sarah strives to spread the passion for flamenco through her artistic endeavors.

Ri Lindegren is a multimedia artist who specializes in technology and physical movement practices (dance, yoga, somatic healing, etc). She received an M.F.A. in Dance and Interdisciplinary Digital Media & Performance from Arizona State University, as well as a B.A. in Anthropology/ International Studies/ Gender Studies from New College of Florida. Ri teaches pre-ballet and creative movement, bringing a sense of deep listening and curiosity to her instruction.

Francisca Ivon Nava began her flamenco training under Laura Moya in Phoenix, AZ and later studied extensively with Julia Chacón. She was a formative member of Phoenix-based, Flamenco por la Vida, under the direction of Angelina Ramirez and performed in “Mujeres,” directed by Yumi la Rosa. Francisca travels to San Antonio, Texas to perform frequently with singer, Chayito Champion. The Champion Flamenco Academy awarded Francisca a Lifetime Achievement award in 2023. Francisca joined Flamenco Theatre when Chacón returned to Arizona, and has performed with the company since 2015. An accomplished costumer, Francisca is the premiere flamenco dressmaker of Arizona.
