“Experience Spain!” Sevillanas at the MIM

January, 2019

We had so much fun participating in “Experience Spain!” at the Musical Instrument Museum (a Smithsonian Affiliate). The full day affair took place on the gorgeous open-air patio of the museum. In the morning, the event opened with Galician bagpipes, followed by a Sevillanas-Rumba set with Monte, Max, and Adrian Perrault and the Flamenco Theater Youth Dancers from Scottsdale School of Ballet (not shown in video). Later in the afternoon a Flamenco Theatre show was featured with Misael Barraza Diaz, Olivia Rojas, Martin Gaxiola, and me, Julia Chacon.

Dancers shown below include Ruth Soberanas, Kelly Catarina, Risa Jacobson, Dana Taylor, Nancy Phillip, Lana Antropova, Gabriela Waterman, and Mary Heberline.

Thank you to all participants for such a wonderful day! And thank you Petra Conde Nemeth for all your work to further knowledge of Spanish culture in Arizona and for helping MIM create a wonderful event representing just a taste of the diversity that Spain has to offer.
