On February 8th, 2019, Julia was named a Finalist for the Governor’s Arts Award. Nominated as an individual artist, Julia was one of three artists statewide to be named a finalist. Since 1981, more than 200 distinguished Arizona artists, arts organizations, businesses, educators and individuals have been recognized for their passion, creativity and devotion to the excellence and diversity of Arizona’s arts and cultural community. The other artists nominated were artist Craig Bohmler and Bobb Cooper of Valley Youth Theater.

The award ceremony was on Thursday March 7, 2019. Although Julia did not win, she felt, “The honor is in being recognized, for having flamenco mean something in our community and to know that our work as artists is making an impact and improving people’s lives.”
The Governor’s Arts Awards event is much more than a tradition. The awards reflect more than three decades of the best in Arizona’s arts and culture community and the magnificent contributions they’ve made to our state’s arts and cultural heritage. Read more.
