In November, Julia Chacon, director of Julia Chacon Flamenco Theatre and Spanish Arts, LLC, will participate in the national conference of the American Society for Theatre Research (ASTR) in Providence, Rhode Island. The conference is among the most distinguished forums for the development of theoretical approaches to performance and attracts hundreds of performance scholars from across the country. Selected to participate in the working session, “A Return to Visitation, Tourism Practices as a Performance of Hope,” Chacon will work to develop a paper for publication that explores how the Ramona Outdoor Play of California serves as the center of a network through which sedimented, pluralistic, and intersectional cultural identities are negotiated and constructed in the U.S. Southwest. Supported by the Arizona State University Graduate College and the Theater & Performance of the Americas Doctoral Program, her participation promises to advance her research and momentum toward completing the dissertation.

Another jewel in your crown!
Congratulations from Carmela & Emmett
